“May this house be sublime” – the Hebrew graffiti carved into the stone of this monument, which was built c. 1100.

Rediscovered in 1976 under the courtyard of the Rouen Palais de Justice, its remains have continued to fuel debate on its original purpose: rabbinical school? private home or synagogue?

Accompanied by a tour guide, come and discover the archaeological crypt housing this unique building in France, evidence of the Jewish community in Rouen, at the heart of the historic centre, since at least the 11th century.

Saturdays at 10:30am and 2:30pm* – Guided tours are only in french. An english guidebook is available. If you need one, please notify us while booking.
